Featured album 01: Pinkerton

Now that I've decided to write more topics-based posts, why choose music and why choose Weezer's Pinkerton? The former is a no-brainer (i *heart* music) and, to a large extent, so is the latter. Pinkerton is one of my all-time favourite albums, though I don't listen to it as much as I use it (it was one of the few albums that got me through high school). It is also my first and favourite album by the band. And thanks to my then-cluelessness, I escaped all the great expectations of their hit, Buddy Holly, and was able to enjoy Pinkerton on its own terms.

Music-wise, the same Weezer infectious melody and hooks are present but the lyrics are starker and more personal. On the whole, the album is stripped-back and raw. It is also an acquired taste, for an album loved by fans, rejected by the critics and a commercial flop compared to the self-titled Blue album (the band swore never to make another album like it). Love the cover-art.

Best tracks: Across the Sea, El Scorcho, Pink Triangle

Note about 'Featured album' series: (i) These are not reviews; (2) I have no musical background whatsoever. I just listen to it; (3) Do not expect anything grand. These just highlight what I like(d).
